a few weeks ago, robbie & i headed south to Costa Rica with our friends Sam & Ryan from Our Travel Passport for a getaway trip! none of us had been to this beautiful country before so it was a treat to explore with our friends. we stayed at the incredible JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa and can't wait to visit again one day! keep scrolling to read all about our stay, take advantage of a discount at the very end, shop my linked outfits at the bottom, and watch the video below by Our Travel Passport.

we flew into the Liberia airport in Guanacaste, so the drive was only about an hour without traffic and a hour & a half with traffic to the Resort. i had looked at photos of the property before coming, but once we arrived i was in awe! it's so gorgeous and perfectly sums up Costa Rica: beautiful and welcoming. we checked into our rooms with an incredible ocean view, unpacked, and headed straight down to the beach to catch our first Costa Rican sunset. Guanacaste is on the western coast of the country, so all the sunsets were unreal!

since we were all tired from a long day of traveling on red-eye flights, we decided to grab dinner at one of the many restaurants our first night, then soak in the hot tub{s} and just relax! the next morning, i took advantage of the incredible bathtub in our room {i mean, look at that view!!!} and then we ordered room service. i honestly think that there will be fluffy beds and room service in heaven because that's the dream to me. luckily, JW Marriott Guanacaste helped me live that dream for a few days haha!we spent our afternoons at the pool, relaxing on the many lounge chairs and playing in the water. this is easily the most incredible pool i've ever been to and because it's so large, every seat in the house is the perfect spot! you can order food and drinks from the waiters wandering around or from the poolside Azul Pool Bar. we pretty much kept {virgin} piña coladas, strawberry daiquiri's, and french fries coming all day long.

later that night, we had the incredible opportunity to watch sea turtles lay their eggs at a turtle reservation, thanks to Swiss Travel Costa Rica! i've never seen something so amazing happen in nature, and it truly was a once in a lifetime experience. we learned all about the life of sea turtles, how they lay their eggs while trying to protect them from predators, and how only one {!!!} of 1,000 baby turtles might make it to adulthood. it's so powerful to see mother nature at work right in front of you. we all kept saying, 'this is the coolest experience ever!' definitely add this to your list if you're traveling to Costa Rica. we didn't get to see any eggs hatching but hopefully in the future!the next morning we woke up to shoot some drone footage at the pool and the resort's private beach before anyone else was even awake {remember this video?!}. we then enjoyed breakfast at the buffet, after which robbie and i snuck in a nap and then headed out to meet Sam & Ryan at the spa for our couple's massages! i've had quite a few massages in my adult life and this was hands down the best one i've had to date. we were in the cutest private villa with a gorgeous open view of nature {pictured below!} and it was just so relaxing. sharing a fun discount on beachside massages at the end of this post when you book through my link!the spa itself was incredible as well. above is the private outdoor patio for ladies {there's one the men's side as well}, which includes this mini pool, a steam room, and a sauna. it's located on an isolated corner of the resort, so it's all very quiet and relaxing. spa days are my favorite and i wanted to do a treatment every single day we were there! this spa is ranked in the top five spas in Latin America, so you know it really is that good! that night we caught another beautiful sunset and then had dinner at the Sabanero Steak House. i love a good steak and this restaurant at the resort did not disappoint. we all left full and happy!another incredible perk of the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa is that they have Avis rental cars on site! the next morning we all hopped in our SUV and drove almost three hours to the incredible Río Celeste waterfall! this beautiful portion of Costa Rican Jungle features monkeys, toucans, and sloths! the waterfall was seriously so magical, and Ryan brought his drone to capture all the best shots. nothing like traveling with talented friends who bring awesome gear!
